Community guidelines
Comments on selfhostedworld.com are for people who run their own software. Share what worked, what broke, and what you would do differently.
The rules
- Stay on topic. Focus on the software, the guide on the page, or self-hosting it. Short thank-you notes are fine.
- No links. Do not post public web addresses, even written out as "example dot com". Local and placeholder addresses are fine:
localhost,192.168.x.x,nas.lan,example.com, Docker service names such asdb:5432, image names such asghcr.io/owner/image, and commands such asgit@github.com:owner/repo.git. - No advertising. Do not promote products, services, hosting offers, referral codes, or your own channel. Naming other software for comparison is fine.
- No private contact. Do not post phone numbers, email addresses, or messenger handles. Do not ask people to message you privately. Naming a project's issue tracker or forum is fine.
- Criticise software, not people. Harsh reviews, bug reports, and comparisons are welcome. Insults, harassment, and threats are not.
- No hate speech and no sexual content.
- No personal data about other people.
- No piracy. Do not ask for or point to pirated software, media, or licence keys.
- Write for people. We remove gibberish, repeated posts, and text designed to evade moderation.
How moderation works
- Commenting requires a confirmed email address and a public display name.
- A person reviews your first comment before it appears.
- After that, an automated check tests new comments against these rules. It only holds comments for review. A human makes every final decision.
- If a moderator hides your comment, your future comments must wait for review again.
- You can report any comment. We review reports.
- We hide or delete rule-breaking comments, and we can ban repeat offenders.
